Molecular basis of tumour progression and therapy resistance

The aim of this line is to understand the biological mechanisms responsible for the initiation, progression and spread of genitourinary tumours, with a particular focus on prostate and bladder cancer.

We study the genetic, epigenetic and metabolic alterations that drive carcinogenesis, as well as the interactions between tumour cells and their microenvironment. We also analyse the processes involved in resistance to conventional, hormonal and immune-based therapies.

The research relies on cell models, patient-derived organoids and animal models that reproduce the complexity of the disease. The line focuses on the signalling pathways involved in tumour progression, inflammation, invasion and the development of metastases.

The knowledge generated aims to identify new molecules that may serve as therapeutic targets and to support the development of innovative strategies for the treatment of genitourinary cancer.
